Domingos Garcia, Filipe Pedroso and João Alves were three fishermen who were sent to Porto Itaguaçu to catch fish for the entourage of Governor Dom Pedro de Almeida on his visit to the city of Guaratinguetá/SP. Knowing that there were no fish there, they begged for the blessings of the Virgin Mary. In one of their many attempts, they caught the body of an image and, when they cast their nets again, they found the head. After this great coincidence, when they cast their nets into the water again, they caught so many fish that they had to return to land for fear that their canoe would sink. And this was the first miracle among many that Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception of Aparecida would perform not only in that place, but throughout the world.
