Archangel Michael has always been greatly loved and venerated by the people of God. Based on certain passages of Sacred Scripture, the Church has come to better understand his role and mission with the Lord on behalf of mankind.

Tradition also sees him as the guardian of the dying, the one who leads souls to the Throne of God for judgment, invoked as our advocate in life and at the hour of death. In art, he is depicted wearing armor, with a sword in hand and attacking the devil, who lies defeated at his feet.
