Pilate entered the Praetorium, summoned Jesus, and asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Do you say this on your own, or did others tell you about me?” Pilate said, “Am I a Jew? Your nation and the chief priests handed you over to me. What have you done?” Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have fought to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not of this world.” Pilate asked him, “Are you then a king?” Jesus answered, “Yes, I am a king. It was to testify to the truth that I was born and came into the world. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” After saying this, he went out again and went to the Jews and said to them, “I find no guilt in him.” Then Pilate had Jesus flogged (Jn 18:33-40; 19:1).
"Manietado", from the verb "manietar", according to the entry in the Portuguese language dictionary. It is a word that is no longer in use, which comes from the verb of Spanish origin "maniatar", that is, "to tie the hands of"; "to restrict the movements of"; or even, in a figurative sense, "to take away freedom", "to constrain".
"Then Pilate said to him, 'Do you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have power to crucify you, and I have power to release you?' Jesus answered, 'You would have no power over me unless it were given to you from above. But he who handed me over to you has the greater sin.'" (John 19:10-11)
Our Lord Jesus Christ, being Almighty God with the Father and the Holy Spirit, allowed Himself to be bound for the sake of all of us, poor slaves of sin. The Most Holy Lamb allowed Himself to be subjected, of His own Will, to scourging and Crucifixion for our sins, in His Divine Meekness, by His Most Sacred Heart which is an unfathomable, immense and eternal abyss of Mercy. It is this Most Merciful Jesus, whose Most Sacred Heart was pierced and opened by the lance; it is He, the Most Holy Lamb, true God and true Man who conquered death, sin and the world. “Behold the Man” (John 19:5) that the Weeping Virgin, Our Lady of Tears, invites us to contemplate and adore.
